SHORT OF FUEL.
AWAHOU PUTS BACK. CPEESS association TILEORAM ) AUCKLAND. September 7.After being eight days at sen, during whicli period she reached halfway to Sydney, the Richardson Company's motorship Awahou returned to Auckland this morning to replenish her oil ruel. The vessel was recently converted i'rom .a steamer to a motor-ship at Auckland-,''--and 'afterwards she pro*, needed to AY hangarei and loaded a timber cargo. She - left VVhangarei f.ir Sydney on Augu&t 30th. Last Tuesday a south-west gale was encountered, i.gainst which the Awahou could not make over four knots. The amount of oil fuel on hoard was not sufficient to iast for a prolonged trip, so Captain A. McLaehlan decided to. make for Auckland to replenish supplies. When the decision was- made '/the Awahou was, 615 mi'es from Sydney .and 673. from Auckland Although the gale itfis severe/ the which feonly of 41Q... tons, was very . bouyant and shipped very little' water on' deck. The vessel's new Diesel engine ran perfectly and t gave no-trouble.- A larger supply qf fuel will lie taken on board nt Auckland, and she is to sail tomorrow.
