The aviators, Lieutenant Ilarokl Bromley and the Australian pilot Gatty, have landed at Sumushiro beach, near Amori, from where they are to take off during the week on a non-stop flight to Tacoma. [Previously the aviators intended to fly from Tacoma to Tokyo, but tests showed that tho western flight would probably be impossible against unfavourable winds. A plan to make the flight in two hops was abandoned owing to unfavourable landing fields in Alaska.] TO DARWIN AND BXCK. MR F. R. MATTHEWS'S PROJECT. LONDON, September 5. Mr F. B. Matthews, J£iss Amy John son's instructor, is leaving Croydon on September 16th in an attempt to fly to Darwin and back within a fortnight, using a standard Puss Moth, with extra tanks. His outward stages will be Sofia, Bagdad, Calcutta, Singapore, Flores, and Darwin, thus reaching Australia in six days. After a rest of a day at Darwin he proposes to return in the same way.
