JAPAN TO TACOMA, FLIGHT EXPECTED THIS WEEK. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BT ELECTRIC TELEQUAPH -COFTBIGHT.) (Received September 7th, 6.30 p.m.) TOKYO, September 6. The aviators, Lieutenant Ilarokl Bromley and the Australian pilot Gatty, have landed at Sumushiro beach, near Amori, from where they are to take off during the week on a non-stop flight to Tacoma. [Previously the aviators intended to fly from Tacoma to Tokyo, but tests showed that tho western flight would probably be impossible against unfavourable winds. A plan to make the flight in two hops was abandoned owing to unfavourable landing fields in Alaska.] TO DARWIN AND BXCK. MR F. R. MATTHEWS'S PROJECT. LONDON, September 5. Mr F. B. Matthews, J£iss Amy John son's instructor, is leaving Croydon on September 16th in an attempt to fly to Darwin and back within a fortnight, using a standard Puss Moth, with extra tanks. His outward stages will be Sofia, Bagdad, Calcutta, Singapore, Flores, and Darwin, thus reaching Australia in six days. After a rest of a day at Darwin he proposes to return in the same way.
