HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. (ABRIDGED FBSSS AJUOCIATIOIf BKPOBT.) WELLINGTON, September 4. The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. Native Department. Referring to the report on Native Land Courts and other matters under tho control of the Native Land Department, both the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates and the Hon. E. A. Ransom congratulated Sir A. T. Ngata, on the success that bad attended his efforts in the direction of the development of Maori lands. Sir A. T. Ngata said every endeavour had been made to ensure that the work was carried out under adequate supervision. It was proposed to commence very active work in the Southland district. Government Printer. Speaking on the annual report of the Printing and Stationery Department, Mr C. H. Chapman (Lab., Wellington North) said the Government Printer would shortly retire on superannuation. He urged the Government when considering the appointment of a successor to consider the claims of a practical man rather than those of a man with nothing but accountancy experience. Far too much importance was attached to accountancy nowadays. The Hon. S, G. Smith said this was the first intimation he' had had that the resignation of the Government Printer'was probable. The National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum Bill was referred to the Lands Committee.

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. (FRESB ASSOCIATION TEIjEOBAK.) WELLINGTON, September 4. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. The Acting-Leader, the Hon. R. Masters, informed the Hon. M. Fagan that steps were being taken to minimise the risks taken by men engaged in blasting operations on Public Works, and the question of bringing Publio Works employees under the Mining Act would be considered. The Chartered Associations (Protection of Names and Uniforms) Bill and the Clutba River Board Empowering Bill were passed. The Council adjourned at 2.60 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. to-morrow.
