HURT BY LORRY.
£llO9 DAMAGES AWARDED. | (rais* auocutxox tiliobam.) I HAMILTON, September 8. A claim for £1309 damages for personal injuries, as a result of being knocked' down by a motor-lorry, was brought in the Supreme Court to-day before Mr Justice Smith and a jury. Plaintiff was John ' Barry, camp ganger, Matangi, and defendants Butler, and Carroll, transport contractors. rhe statement of claim set out that on August 21st, 1929, plaintiff was a camp ganger, working for the Public Works Department on the llangiriri deviation. Defendant company at the time was engaged in. connexion with the construction of another section of the road. Plaintiff was walking along the road, when he was knocked down by a lorry driven by an employee of the defendant company, John Matthew Young. Plaintiff, as a result, was completely incapacitated for an indelinite period, had suffered the loss of twelve months' wages, and 'incurred i medical expenses of £ll4 18s His injuries consisted of two' broken bones in the rght leg, several broken ribs, and a badly bruised back. The damages claimed included £IOOO general and £309 18s special.
After a short retirement, the jury found for plaintiff and awarded him £llO9.
