WATER BOARD.
W AIMAKARIRI-ASHLEY. Tho monthly meeting of the Waimak-ariri-Ashley Water Board was held on Monday. Present: Messrs Jas. Brown (chairman), J. F. Dawson, F. Sheat, G. Wayland, and J. Waller. The secretary reported that a good supply of water was being maintained at the Brown's Rock intake, the average depth for the past month being seven feet sis inches on the sill. Concrete blocks had been put in at the ends of two of the groynes to stop scouring. A thousand assorted trees had been planted at the head works. Three culverts had been constructed in the BennettsSummerhill district, and one at Cust. Replying to a letter from the Water Board, regarding any damage which may occur to the water-race, through the diversion of Colliers' creek at Springbank, the River Trust stated that the Water Board was safeguarded under the provisions of the Waimakariri River Improvement Act. With reference to the raising of a redemption loan to pay off the balance of the £13,000 loan, the secretary stated that the Loans Board had refused to sanction, the raising of the money with the Pubiic Trustee, at 6 per cent., and had also stipulated that the sinking fund should be increased to £2 8s per cent. The secretary further reported that, he was now negotiating for a loan at 55 per cent. It was decided that the Loans Board be written to asking if the amount of the sinking fund could be reduced.
