powta Housa Chimney. Scaffolding was erected to-day around ..fgoft brick smoke stack at the Greyth Harbonr Board's power house the wharf, preparatory to an inaction being made. It is expected that T. nt 7 ft will have to be removed from f. . t op of the smoke stack, it having been affected by the earthquake last " ?ear " Supreme Court.

The quarterly sitting of the Supreme fonrt at Greymouth is set down for September 10th. The following cases are on the list: . Criminal— For sentence, Daniel Patrick Mullins, alias Maloney, breaking and entering (three charges), attempted breaking and entering (one). Herbert S. Fielding, breaking and entering (two charges). Civil—William Farrell v. IS or t hern Assurance Co., Ltd., claim for £250 insurance. In divorce —Groufsky v. Groufsky and Jlnlroy. Petition for dissolution on tie grounds of adultery. In bankruptcy —Motions by DeputyOfficial Assignee for release in 13 estates. So far no jury cases are on the list.

Hockey. The Marlborough laides' hockey team met the West Coast team in Victoria : Park this afternoon, playing the Pope eliallenge shield match. There was a good attendance and some interesting play,, After a hard game Marlborough won the trophy by one goal to nil, the - icore being made from a scramble in which. Miss Danbrey took the ball inside the circle, and Miss D. Gale goaled. Messrs Fish (Blenheim) and Hogg ((Blackball) were the referees. Plunket Ball.

A paper dress ball was held last evening in aid of the funds of the Grey branch of the Plunket Society. There was a good attendance. Mesdames J. W. Hanuan and C. Freight Trains. , Owing to the reduction. of coal 'freight from the mining towns to Greymouth, and from Greymotttli to Canter- ■ bury, several of the freight trains have bpen temporarily discontinued.
