LATE MR ROGER GOULD.

THE FUNERAL. "A young country like New Zealand cannot afford to lose such men," said the Eev. E. B. Moore, Vicar of Amuri, at the graveside of Mr Roger Gould, of Rotherham, whose burial took place yesterday in the Rotherham Cemetery. The news of the death came as a profound shock to the whole community, Mr Moore continued, so much so that they felt unablo to express their feelings at the loss they had suffered. Mr Gould had given great service to his country both in war and peace and would have continued to do so had he been spared. "Here lie the remains of an officer and a gentleman," said the vicar in conclusion.

The funeral was one of the largest seen in tho district, mourners coming from all parts of tho province and the City. The pall-bearers were Messrs P. E. Dearden, J. Gibb, G. Reid, H.
