EDUCATION REPORT.
——♦ WANGANUI BOARD'S DECISIONS. (press association telegram.) WANGANUI, September 3. Tho Wanganui Education Board devoted practically the wholo of to-day to a minute study of the report of the Parliamentary Recess Committee which recommends far-reaching amendments in the New Zealand system of education. The recommendations embodied in the report were dealt with separately, and of the total of 32, 2-1 were adopted. No action was taken with regard to four, as they were deemed outside the scope of the Board, and four were opposed. Those which did not meet with approval were the classes dealing with unification of control, the creation of existing post primary school Boards as school Councils, and the widening of Departmental powers in favour of lessening the scope of existing Boards. The fundamental reason advanced for the opposition was that the report, while it agreed that the present system of education was efficient, did not indicate how the reforms proposed would effect economy.
