METROPOLITAN MEETING. STAKES REDUCED. The Canterbury Jockey Club, at its monthly meeting th;B week, adopted the report of the Programme Committee for the Metropolitan Meeting, to be held in November. The report provides for a reduction of £2050 in the stakes distributed over the four days' racing, the details being as follows: FIRST DAY.

The report also dealt with further changes in the programme, which the committee approved. The Metropolitan Handicap has been transferred from the second to the fourth day, and the Fendalton Handicap changed from the fourth to the second day The Apprentices* Handicap, on the first day will have the following new condition: —"For horses that have never won a race of six furlongs or under at time of starting." The Randolph Handicap, on the second day, will be restricted to licensed apprentice riders. The Ashley Handicap, on the third day, has in the past been restricted to apprentice riders, but this condition has been struck out.

The Pioneer Handiqap, for two-year-olds, on the fourth day, has had the distance increased from four furlongs to five.

The order of the races on the concluding day of the meeting will be as follows: —Port Cooper Hurdles, Seymour Handicap, Cressy Handicap, Pioneer Handicap Metropolitan Handicap, G. G. Stead Cup, Stonyhurst Handicap, Members' Handicap
