FLOOD PREVENTION.
STOPBANK AT BEXLEY. In order to lessen the danger of flood for the residents of Bexlcy, the Heathcote County Council is extending the stopbank along the Avon between the Brighton Bridge at Seaview road and the South Brighton bridge. - Thirty chain* will be put up at & cost of about £2OO. a similar amount having been spent last year and the year before. Tnis area is in the Bromley Riding. . . .. Since the recent big flood in the Heathcote, the County Council has been concerned with a scheme of stormwater drainage for Bowenvale. In conference wuli the chairman of the City" Council Works Committee (Cr. J W. Beanland). Heathcote Council representatives discussed the installation of extra drains in the St. Martins area. No action has yet been taken. jj ea thcote itself measures for flood prevention will have to be taken lointly by the County Council, which controls part of one bank, the Citv Council, which controls part or the other, and Uie Drainage Board, which is responsible for the river itS6 The City Engineer (Mr A. R. tJalbraith) said on Saturday that nothing had been done at Radley. which was in the Council'.? area. No measures would prevent a flood caused by an excessive downpour on the hills which seemed to be the main cause of the last one.
