THE MUNN CASE.

PETITION NOT YET CONSIDERED (FBESS ASSOCIATION TEI/ECIBAU ) WELLINGTON, July 21. The petition of Arthur Thomas Munn, who is awaiting the .death penalty for the murder of his wife, has not yet been considered by the Executive Council. It had been hoped to obtain a decision to-day, but all the members of. Cabinet have not yet had an opportunity of fully examining the papers. The Minister for Justice (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) says that probably a special meeting of the Executive Council will be held this week to deal with the matter. SOLICITOR'S COMMENT. (rszss ASSOCIATION TZLEGBAH-) AUCKLAND, July 21 "It is positively indecent that a matter of this nature should not be dealt with promptly." said Mr E. Ek< Northcroft, who defended Munn, when informed that the Executive Council had not considered the case.

BIBLE SOCIETY.

The Rev. A. W. Stuart, organising secretary for the Canterbury Auxiliary | of the British and Foreign Bible Society, visited Cust in order to resuscitate the branch there. A very successful meeting was held, the following officers being appointed:—President, Rev G. B. Nanson; viffi-presi-dcntj Rev. A. Simmonds; secretary, Mrs A. R. Forbes. A number of collectors were also appointed. A branch of the Bible Society was formed recently at Hororata, when a visit wa3 made by the Rev. A. W Stuart. Miss E. E. Nelson undertook the duties of branch secretary, with Mrs G. Derrett as assistant. A large gathering of Bible Society supporters at Oxford met the Rev, A. W.. Stuart. Mr Stuart outlined the world-wide work of the Society in relation to the translation and distribution of the Scriptures. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs D. Hawke; vice-presi-aents, Mesdatnes H. J. Malcolm and H. G. Sell; secretary, Miss Elsie Malcolm. ' The retiring secretary (Miss A. H. Caverhill) was thanked for her services.
