NEW POST OFFICE.
WIDTH OF DOORWAY. Criticism of the plans of the new High street Post Office has been exr pressed on the ground that the doorway provided is too narrow. A Public Works " official seen yesterday said no grounds existed for such a fear, as the doorway would be,six feet wide, or a few inches more than was provided by the swing doors in the Chief Post Office. Furthermore, entry to the. High street Post Office would be obtained through a doorway which would have.no obstruction whatever, as the pair of sliding doors would run into the walls on either side, and there would be only one step from the footpath level to the floor of the porch. A dwarf, partition at a distance of sft 6in from the doorway would have swing doors at either end admitting to the public counters. To alter the doorway in the plans would necessitate re-designing, because of the situation of the columns .shown in the photograph published yesterday.
