FIRES.
DWELLINGS DESTROYED. ' (press association teleobam.) . WHANGAREI, July 17. At eight o'clock last night fire at Karoo destroyed a baker's shop and residence combined, owned by Harry Wilkinson and occupied by Mrs Moore. An adjoining dwelling, owned by James Swann and occupied by Mrs Johnson, was also destroyed. A bucket brigade, which was the only fire-fight-ing medium available., could not quell the outbreak. A telegraph pole was burned nearby, and this disorganised northern trunk services, but temporary repairs were effected at seven o'clock this morning. A TOTAL LOSS. * (PBISS ASSOCIATION TZLEGBAM.) WANGANUI. July 17. A dwelling of five rooms, owned by Mr J Rutherford. Rapanui. together with the contents, was totally destroyed by fire at 5.30 this morning. The occupants made a hurried escape in their night attire The insurances are £.500 on the building, and£2so on the furniture.
