AN UNUSUAL CASE.
CONSTABLE GRANTED COMPENSATION. •_Pa»»S ASSOCIATION TEtBSRAU.; AUCKLAND. July 17. What was stated to be the first case in New Zealand of a policeman re-? ceiving compensation under the Workers' Compensation Act for injury received while he was on his beat, was mentioned in the Arbitration Court. Mr Sullivan appeared for the Constables, Edwin Ray Young, of Auckland, and Mr Hubble for tho Crown. The claimant suffered two injuries to his ankle while on duty. At Freeman's Bay, on the night of October 2nd, he stumbled in a rut m the foot* path, and sprained his left ankle. On November 6th ho again twisted and sprained his ankle at.night op the game beat. As he developed" chropiq synovitis, entailing partial permanent disability, he had to be retired from tho police force. Mr Sullivan informed the Court that a settlement had been reached between the parties. On a basis of the estimate of the medical referee, the claimant would receive £154 and costs.
