NEW ENTERTAINMENT HALL.

CITY COUNCIL APPROVES SCHEME.

Mr B. J. Ager, architect, lias submitted to tho Christchurch City Council for approval, plans of a building proposed to be erected in the position now occupied by .Messrs W. Goss and Son's timber mills and yard, on Peterborough, Durham, and Wausbury streets. Tho project is the construction of a large buiiuing for exhibition purjjosea ana entertainments, it is proposed chat the main exhibition hail enuuiii be subdivided at such periods of tlio year when it will not bo required for exhibition purposes, a portion of it to bo used for a skating-rink, tennis, bowls, and other kindred amusements, or let for general assembly purposes, tor rcvo-nue-producing purposes. Tho concert hall and ballroom would bo used for tho purpose for which they aro sot out, with the exception ot any time when the whole building would be required for any special exhibition. Mr Ager asked for an assurance that the building and project in general would be passed by the Council. After inspecting the plans and the site, the committeo recommended that a permit for the erection of tho building be issued when applied for. Tho above was a clause from the By-laws, Finance, and Departmental Committees' report, held over from last meeting, and presented to last night's meeting of the Christchurch City Council. Tho Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) said that no objections had been received from residents in the vicinity, and the clause could be adopted. His suggestion was approved.
