MAJESTIC THEATRE.
"FOOTLIGHTS AND FOOLS."
"Footlights and Fools," at tha Majestic Theatre this week, is, as its name indicates, still another story of the stage. There is the girl who is playing star roles, and the man she loves, not a millionaire, but a plain, ordinary follow. There are bright teohnicolour scenes and an expensive apartment, to which tho girl retires when she can—in fact, all the usual paraphernalia of the back-stage film Btory. , , But this picture can claim to be a little different from the ordinary run of back-stage stories. The girl, Betty Murphy (Colleen Moore), Is appearing on the stage as Fifl d'Auray. She is besieged with admirers, who think she is a Frenchwoman, among whom is a Wall street millionaire; but she remains faithful to her humble lover, Jimmy. Jimmy, however, has his faults; he manages to make a comfortable living by gambling, and he cannot seo why he should take a job while he can "get by" without doing so. But Betty will not marry him until he gets a job, and things are at a deadlock, until the millionaire comes to hear of the position, and thinking that Betty's feeling for the boy is merely pity, get him a job, unknown to Betty. The boy comes to learn of the position, and having been caught in a robbery of his employer's office, falls back on Betty to hide him, while be loudly protests his innocence, so that she marries him to save the conventions. In the end it appears that her faith in Jimmy has been misplaced, while the millionaire, whom she has despised as still another of the type that hangs about stage doors, proves to be the man of sterling worth. But the probelm is loft unsolved; she is married to Jimmy, and she knows the millionaire really loves her.
