NOISE OF A SAW.
BOX-CUTTING FACTORY. After several councillors had given assurances that no annoyance would be caused to residents, the City Council decided last evening to grant a permit for the building of a box-cuttitig fat> tory in Linwood. The Town Planning Committee reported : * An application has been received for permission to establish a box-cutting factory on a property situate at the coiner of Ferry road and Barbour str««t. The applicant states that the business has been established for gome years, the mill at present being Bituated at Lauriston, but as the result, of circumstances outlined in the application, the owner now desires to instal a saw at the property referred to above, which is at present used as a coal-yard. The shed in which the saw will be installed is situated about 00 feet fron* the nearest house. In the circumstances the committer has granted the required permit, but has pointed out that should the saw cause annoyance to the neighbours, they would have the right to apply for an injunction ordering its removal. Cr. E. It. McCombs said the clause should be held over until the, view Ot the residents had been obtained. Cr. W. Williamson said the aaW those oonoerned intended to use in future was very small, compared with the one they bad had in the past. A similar busmess had been carried On there for. many years. He did not think the saw would be a source of annoyance to residents. Cr. T. H. Butterfield said he supported the view of Cr. Williamson. The same business had been carried on at the snot for many years. Cr. E, Parlane said he did not atttim*pato any annoyance to residents. The Mayor (IVfr 3. K. Archer) critic ised the granting of the permits for such undertakings before the Council considered them.
