TRENTHAM NOTES.

[THE PRESS Special Berrlce.] WELLINGTON, July 7. There were one or two misty showers at Trentham this morning, but not sufficient to take effect on the tracks, i'he inside ol the trial grass was open i'or last work, and tuere was some interesting galloping. Xhe going was sore out in quite luir orGrr. One or two'horses aiso schooled. hunting Call was unuer a good pull to run live lurlongs in 1.8 12-3. He nas not accoinplisheu anytmng out of tne ordinary on the tracus, out is in good order tor his engagements. King Muskot and JDolomito did a tt-orkinir gallop over hve furlongs in 1 U taking 15 for the first furlong. Goblin Market sprinted a smart iialf in 60 the best of the morning. This ia not unusual with him, and he does not display the same dash with the colours up. . Odin tan n mile and a quarter at a e ood pace, the last mile in 1.56. Consent, ridden by his trainer, L. G Morris, ran right away from Intruder at the end of five furlongs in L 7 the last half in 62 4-5. Consent went well, and is fancied for the Stewards' Handicap. Maori Boy was better than Lady's Boy over five furlongs in 1.9. Maori Boy has worked well, and he also looks well. He always carries a solid weight, j Nucleus (H. Dulieu) jumped tjiree hurdles slowly. Semper Paratus (H. Gray) was going much better than Hurly Burly (J. Barrv) at the end of five furlongs in 1.7 1-5. the last half in 53J. Semper Paratus impressed, and looks like having a Bay in the last race to-morrow. Son o' Mine (L. Dulieu) set off to jump the steeplechase fences on the couree proper, and he showed himself distinctly averse to the task. He got over only one fence, and he straddled that; at all the others he baulked. He is usually a fine jumper, and probably would have gone all right with a companion. Pedestal and Half Acre were well matched over five furlongs in 1.7 J. Paddon sprinted on the sand, a fast track, half n mile in 51. Kiosk, Mendip, and Mount Shannon finished in fairly close order as named at the end of six furlongs in 1.21. Kiosk was going best, ana has built up since J. Fryer took him over. Mendip hardly worked so well as his Hawera track reports credited him with doing recently. Mount Shannon's effort was quite satisfactory. Avro was going bettor than Aurora Borealis, with Flying Swift beaten right off at the end of six furlongs in 1.231. It was a good effort for jumpers, but Flying Swift did not appreciate the soft track. Avro will be very hard to beat to-morrow. Amorist, alone, set off behind them and took 1.23. This waß another good gallop for a jumper. Amorist looks well and Riccarton reports credit him with being one of the hardest to beat in his engagements. Staghunter and Duellona ran half a mile in 53J, the former doing it nicely. Staghunter has done well lately. Prince Desmond and Gowanlea took 54 over the same distance, but could Tlave done better. Prince Desmond bears an improved appearance since he raced at the Foilding Easter Meeting. Gowanlea might be handy. Matu and Panorama ran seven furlongs on the sand in 1.39 2-5. Wharncliffe and High Heather jumped five of the steeplechase fences on the course proper, giving a good display. Wharncliffe will bo ridden in the Wellington Steeplechase by D. O'Connor. Paiko attracted attention by running a smart half with Okapua in 61 8-5. Paiko was doing it the better, but Okapua's effort for a maiden was above the ordinory He is a younger brother to Paiko and has raced six times without getting into the money. On this gallop he is not likely to oe long. Chopin, Black Duke, and Don Quixote finished as named at half-length intervals at the end of four furlongs in 52j. All went nicely. Tahoma sprinted fivo furlongs in I.B}, a satisfactory effort. High Pitch and Valquette ran four furlongs in 53}, the former going nicely. Blue Paper and Llyn Du did what was probably as good as was done during the morning by running half a mile in 51 with good weights up. Subdivision took 56 for four furlongs, but was not bustled.

Havering again cantered. It looks as if .he can be passed over for his first day's engagement at least on this work. His owner sent for his colours from Wiggins, who rode him in Auckland, nnd Wiggins is now on Hopwood. Wiggins, however, is engaged for tb» Winter Chin. Havering's form at Wellington will be watched with interest.

Nakumni ran away from Fine Acre at tlfe end of seven furlongs in 1.89. The old fellow is well and ho might not be so far away at the finish of the big steeplechase as his lack of racing during the twelve months would suggest. Make Up (R. Symo) schooled nicely over four hurdles. He will not be long. Luminary pleased again in a gallop with Sir Moment over seven furlongs in I.SS. He wilj go well in the Highweight Handicap on the second day on the way he is working. Hopwoodj kicked out, finished well clear of Prinoe of Orange at the end of four furlongs, run in 51 8-6, the last throe' in 38. Hopwood did not lose any friends. Omeo and Singer ran six furlongs in 1.27 4-5. Corneroff schooled satisfactorily over five of the big fences on the course proper. What beats him to-morrow should win. Ross-shire sprinted without making time. For a two-year-old he is all that Auckland reports have credited him with being as regards size, and he is an attractive mover. Royal Opera ran half a mile comfortably in 54. Ho looks well.

E. Sweetapplc, owner of

Arachne, was called upon to show cause why the horse should not be placed on tlie schooling list owing to its behaviour at the barrier. The meeting decided that there was not enough evidence to justify placing the horse on the schooling list. The timekeepers of the Greymouth Trotting Club advised that Great Author's time in the Victoria Park Handicap at the club's Summer Meeting was 3.37 2-5, an error having been made owing to the wrong number being displayed. A recommendation was made by the Canterbury Trotting Club that the charge of interference made against L. 0. Thomas, driver of Lady Fan at the club'B Meeting on June_ Brd, be dismissed. The recommendation was approved. The action of the Judicial Committee of the Ashburton Trotting Club in reversing the placings in the Longbeach Handicap on June 14th, making Enigma second and Quincy Thorpe third, was endorsed. It was stated that Quincy Thorpe, who finished seoond, broke some distance from the fiuish,. and was allowed to gallop past the winning post. An application by T. B. Mortimer, of Southland, for tho lifting of the life disqualification imposed 21 years ago, was supported by letters from several clubs. It was urged that the application be granted, in view of Mortimer'B age, his uncertain state of health, and the length of sentence, already served. The meeting unanimously agreed to remove the disqualification on account of the strong representations made by various clubs. G. Milligan was fined £2 for failing to notify +be transfer of the horse Bluewood, after being repeatedly requested by the Association to comply with the rules. The Amberley Racing Club advised that an enquiry had been held regarding an allegation of crossing against Actor, who was placed second in the Rowai Trot Handicap on May 3rd. and it was decided that the evidence was not conclusive enough to warrant any notion being taken. The committee's decision was endorsed. The death of the following horses vas reported: Aouilin. Audubon Child, Bonnv Niven, Gladsome, and Roalie Patch Messrs Williams. Harley. Armstrong, nnd McKenscie, who retire from the Board by rotation, will be re-elected as there are no other nomination*. 1
