WHEAT BILL REJECTED.

FEDERAL SENATE'S ACTION. NO POLITICAL CONSEQUENCES LIKELY. (TJNITKD PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received Julv 4th, 9.60 p.m.) CANBERRA. July 4. The Senate provided a stir to-day by rejecting the Wheat Marketing Bill in its second reading. Several of the Opposition members voted with the Government. The Bill had aimed at a compulsory wheat pool with a guarantee of 4s per bushel, as an outcome of which farmers had greatly increased the acreage under wheat. The Minister for Markets, Mr P. Maloney, was greatly disappointed at the rejection of the Bill, which, he claimed, was due to intense lobbying by wheat merchants. Mr Maloney said that no political consequences were likely to arise out of the gonate's action.
