FIRES.
APIA POST OFFICE BURNT. PART OF PARCEL MAIL DESTROYED. (By Radio—SpocUl to Prtss ; AssocUtion.) APIA, July 3. The third fire in two months occurred at 2 o'clock this morning in Apia, when: the Post (Pffice arid Telephone Exchange were burnt to the ground. The undelivered part of the parcels mail ex the Tofua was 'destroyed, but the office-records and money in the strong-room are intact. The origin of the fire is unknown. The building was old, and formerly was used as the German Consulate.
OUTBREAK IN THEATRE. (FBBSS ASBOdATIOK TItWJBAH.) WELLINGTON, July 3. A fire in the projection box of the Empire Theatre, Island Bay, put an abrupt end to the programme. The structure adjoins the theatre, and the patrons were unaware of the outbreak until they had left the building. No panic occurred and the fire brigade extinguished the flames quickly.
