REAR REFLECTORS.

CYCLISTS' BREACHES. COUNTRY MOTORIST'S COMPLAINT. In last week's Motor Notes "Roadster" referred to the possibility of th© City Council considering the making of a by-law to compel cyclists to carry rear lights, if the present regulations regarding the carrying of rear red reflectors were not observed. The Chief Motor Inspector ( (Mr H. Macintosh) stated that complaints were being received constantly from motorists who said that narrow escapes were becoming increasingly frequent. Mr Macintosh has received a letter from a Halkott resident on th© subject, upholding the views expressed in the article. The letter is as follows: "In to-day's Press (June 27th) I notice your remarks under the heading, 'Rear Reflectors.' "1 think it is timo the by-law was strictly enforced, as on the* last two occasions upon which 1 have driven out of town, along Riccarton road, at about 6.15 p.m.. I have narrowly missed running over a cyclist who was not equipped with a reflector of any sort. At that time of night, when visibility is verv bad, the number of cyclists without reflectors or lights is large, and constitutes a very great danger. "Last Wednesday night a boy on a bioycle crossed in front of me without lights, and iust missed being run over hv another cai that was passing roe. It is hiah time that the by-law was strictly enforced, for the motorists have to adhere to their regulations. Sorry to comolain but safety first!" Mr Macintosh has renljed that the matter will receive attention.
