According to the "Craftsman," the 24 volumes, of over 1000 pages, of the new Eneyclopajdia Britannica, were linotyped in a few months. ■ The printers set over 35,000,000 words "Two hundred and fifty tons of type matter were proofed, corrected, stored made np, got out, put back changed, checked, And recheoked." The ninth edition (1889) took 14 years to publish, the 10th edition (combining the ninth edition and 11 supplementary volumes) took four vears more. The llth edition (1909) took six years. The 12th and 13th editions were marked by supplementary volumes only. The new edition took two and a half years to publish.

An alcove in the main reading-room of the library of tho Johns Hopkins University has been fit aside as a memorial to the poet, Sidney Laniei. Lanier, ill 1879, was appointed lecturer in English Literature at the Johns Hopkins University. He gave a course at the University in poetry which afterwards was published as '•Science of English Verse" and a course on the novel that after hi death was published as Tho English Novel."
