«THE ARGYLE CASE." SEASON OPENS TO-DAY. There is nothing more entertaining than a well-constructed detective story, whether it be on tlio printed page, stage, or tha screen. Everybody looks on these talee &b the ideal combination of stirring action, intriguing mystery, and mental relaxation. One of the most absorbing mystery plays ever presented is "The Argylo Case, the newest all-talking Warner Brothers-Vitaphone production, which will be pressntod at the New Opera House to-day, commencing with a matinee performance at 2.15 p.m. In "The Argylo Case" Thomas Meighan will make his first appearance on the audible screen, and theatregoers will now becomo acquainted all over again with this brilliant artist, who has for years been one of the most popular of screen stars. For, with his entry into talking pictures, he bocomes, in effoct, a new personality—a man with a voice, instead of being merely a shadow. Mr Meighan plays the role of a masterdetective, who is called in to solve the mysterious death of John Argyle, and throughout the play performs feats of Bcientifio deduction which, in their cleverness, are worthy of Sherlock Holmes. "The Argyle Case" is unique in many waya—one tf that there is no courtroom trial scene, and as it progresses the plot becomes one of absorbing interest, with the finger of suspicion pointing first at one character and then at another until the thrilling climax is reached. There is robust comedv, too. and love interest, to take away the cursa of grimnosa. Lila Leo is charming as the girl in the cas», and Thomas Meghan's supporting cast includes other favourites of the screen, such as H. B. Warner, Bert Roach, and ZaBU Pitts.
