Forensic Clul). Mr It. IL Kcvillo presided over this week's meeting of tho Forensic Clul), when tho subject, <( Thut a Medical Board should bo ablo to decide tho ending of human life in eases of hopeless deformity and incurablo disease," was keenly debated by Messrs J. 11. Thomas, M. Willis, J. E. Tait, and F. 11. Mathews. Next week Mr A. J. Martin will bo in the chair, the subject beinfj "That New Zealand should disassociate itself from tho Empire." The principal speakers will be Messrs J. K. Barr, 11. B. l'inun, A. J. Scott, and lw 11. Neville.

Fire Brigade Matters. A irrcat many people in Sumner are under tho impression that the I'ire brigade Station is not 011 the t f < * 1 lc I ,ho " u list This idea is erroneous, the station is connected with the Borough Council offices, tho number being C4O. After the Council ofhccs close tho line is switched across to the Firo Station, so that residents arc in direct communication with tho Brigade. An instance of this misapprehension occurred recently, when a ring was received from Scarborough at the Sumner Clarago, with tho request that the Brigade be warned of a fire on Scarborough. Only by the merest chanco was there anyone at tho garage at the time, and he immediately got into telephonic communication with tho station. The members of the Brigade havo recently reopened their bil-liard-room, thero being 21 members at present. Facilities aro available for either billiards or snooker on tho fullsizo table, and those awaiting their turn to play may pass tho time by playing cards. Cribbugo boards aro also provided. Later it is' intended to introduce a flying fifty billiards tournament, the proceeds of which will bo devoted to the coinpetiticfci fund. The Brigade's annual danco will be held in the Town Hall. A large number of guests aro expected, and cards will bo provided for those who do not dance. During the evening long-service medals will be presented to Superintendent J. Carter (45 years), Foreman J. Merritt (29 years), Foreman J. Williams (28 years), whilo five service bars and threo medals are also to bo awarded.

Rugby Football. Last Saturday tho President's 2 team played a drawn and pointless game against Bromley, before a good attendant of local residents, who witnossed one of tho best games seen at Sumner for a long period. Tho forwards of both teams were evenly matched, while the local backs were slightly better than their opponents. However, many opportunities wore lost through some of the backs trying to do too much on their own, and combination will have to be developed considerably before the team can expect to finish at the top of the competition.

The under seventeen team won its second match of the season by 9 points to 3, after an interesting game, in which tho local backs showed vastly improved form. Both tries were scored by Long, a promising wing three-quarter, while Trevean kicked a penalty goal. The latter's kicking has been a great asset to his team, and he is now showing consistent kicking form. This afternoon the President's 2 team will meet High School Old Boys at No. 4 Polo Ground, South Park, while the under seventeen team is drawn to play Y.M.O.A. at St. Leonard's Parlt

Hockey. Four members of the Redcliffs hockey team have been selected to go into training for the representative team—S. Mander, G. Sandford, E. Prebble, and H. Snooks. In view of the excellent form shown •by the team last Saturday, and in previous matches, this is hardly surprising. In a team whore every member is doing his fair share it is difficult to individualise, but in last Saturday's game against 'Varsity, R Thompson, S. Mander, and H. Snooks were outstanding.

Association Football. In view of the run of non-suecess which the Sumner Club has had, the senior team's display against Western last Saturday was very creditable, and, to use the expression of the. coach, the team played "wonderful football." H. Jackson, at centre half, played a very fine game, and has proved himself a great addition to the team, while his experience is extremely valuable to members. H. Stoneman, at inside half, R Peters, right half, and M. Peterson, right full-back, were all outstanding, and in the absence of the regular goal-keeper. T. Smithy took his position and acquitted himself remarkably well. A further series of euchre parties will be commenced at Mr Phillips's residence, 36 Dryden street, on" Monday evening

next week's programme would consist of comic clippings and games. The Proposed Federation. The secretary of the Sumner Businessmen's Association (Mr F. J. Adcock) reports that one or two of the local bodies concerned have not yet replied to. the circular letter sent out by his Association with reference to the proposed formation of a federation of the various local bodies. Until every local body replies a date for a meeting cannot be arranged. Mothers' Union. The Rev. E. C. W. Powell presided over a meeting of the Sumner-Redcliffs branch of the Mothers' Union, held this week. The resignation of Mrs E. C. W. Powell, as enrolling member, was received with regret, and Mrs H.
