MISHAP WITH CAR.
CHARGE OF CONVERSION FOLLOWS. (FUSS MSncUTlO* TBLBOBAM.) WANGANUI, May 30. About 8.30 to-night a motor-car in reverse gear backed along the kerb in Victoria avenue and brought down several verandah posts with a loud crash, tho verandahs collapsing on to tho footpath. The car then backed across the street and hit the dividing wall between two shops The next move was to return across the street, ooming to rest against another verandah post. The car was not very much damaged, but sixty feet of verandah collapsed, though 'luckily no passers-by were injured. Seated in the front scat of the car wne Joseph F. K. Legge, of Gisborne, who waa later charged at the Police Station with unlawfully convertinp; to his own uso a car belonging to William A. B. Lowry, of Hunterville.
