SIR JOSEPH WARD.

HEALTH IMPROVES.

CONDITION STILL SERIOUS.

[THE PKESS Special Service.]

AUCKLAND, May 29.

After having given cause for the gravest anxiety, Sir Joseph Ward's condition revealed a slight improvement to-night, but he is still seriously ill. Ho was quiet but conscious throughout the day and recognised members of his family, besides reading newspapers at intervals.

An official bulletin issued this morning said: —Prior to the recent Cabinet meeting at Rotorua, Sir Joseph's medical adviser was very concerned about the marked change in his health. However, with release from the heavy burdens of office it was hoped his health would have shown improvement, but unfortunately this has not taken place. He is seriously ill. Sir Joseph is at Prince's Gate, where there are also his daughter, Mrs B. B. Wood, and other members of the family —Messrs Cyril, Vincent, Gladstone, and Pat Ward.
