A. number of the speakers—self-styled Communists —set vp an 'attack on the orderly conduct of the meeting, the Unemployment Committee being taxed with inefficacy and lethargy. At one stage the chairman declared the meeting closed, bnt it was reopened and tho following resolution carried: "That this meeting expresses confidence in the Unemployed Committee of the Trades and Labour Council, nnd pledges itself to work with the organised Trades Unionism of New Zealand." .. SOUP KITCHEN OPENED. irsass association txlecb.au.) DUNEDIN, May 29. For the first time in a long period a soup kitchen, organised by the Salvation Army, was opened to-day to foed the. unemployed and their dependents. Up to one o'clock 100 persons had been served.

AN AUCKLAND OPINION. [XSBB TSSSS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, May 29. That the offiicial figures do not justify tho assumption that unemployment in New Zealand has become, a permanent feature in our economic life, or that it has reached a stage at which it cannot be dealt with adequately by the Government with the machinery at its disposal, are two of several reasons advanced by the executive of the Auckland Employers' Association for disagreeing with the report submitted to the Government by tho Unemployment Committee. The executive considers that the only cure, for unemployment is a revival of trade, which in a country possessing the natural wealth and resources of New Zealand should bo quite practicable by, increasing land settlement and removing the disabilities under which the primary and secondary industries, are suffering.
