May Day Party. The annual children's May Day fancy dress party, under the auspices of the Lyttelton Plunket Society, will be held in the Excelsior Hall to-morrow afternoon. Games and entertainments will bo given, and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Harbour Light Theatre. "The Doctor's Secret," a drama starring Euth Ohatterton. will be repeated at the Harbour Light Theatre to-night, with a good supporting programme. To-morrow "The Virginians," a classic Western drama, featuring Gary Cooper, will be screened. The supporting programme includes a gazette, comedy, and a song-featuro. Methodist Church. A very enjoyable evening was spent «t the Methodist parsonage on Wednesday, when members of the choir of the Lyttelton Methodist Church were entertained by the Rev. and Mrs 0. Blair. Music, games, and competitions were held, songs being contributed by Misses Perry (2), A. Shuker, and 0. Norton, Mrs F. Mintey, and Mr J. Page, while community singing proved very popular. Miss Nancy Poster was accompanist. A hearty vote of thanks, moved by Mr J. Page, was a-corded Mr and Mrs Blair for their hospitality. Plunket Society. In connexion with the local branch of the Plunket Society, a most successful "mothers' at home" was held in the Y.W.O.A. Hnll on Wednesday afternoon, when about thirty mothers, with their babies, accepted the committee's invitation to be present. After Mrs B. H. Gilmour had briefly explained the aims of the Society, Nurse Twentyman Bpoke on the correct drossing of the pre-school child, showing the rlothes in explanation, and then she stressed the necessity of care of the teeth. Later Nurße Twentyman gave a practical demonstration of the making of humanised milk—really a very simple preparation. Tea brought a very interesting afternoon to a close. It is the intention of the committee to hold these afternoons each month during the winter. Miniature Elfle Club. On Wednesday evening the Juniors met and were defeated by Cashmere, th,e scores being: Cashmere 539. Lyttelton 533. Best scores for Lyttelton were L. tjymonds and F. Mills 68 each, and K. Whitford. R. Sowden, and E. Corkin 67 each. On Tuesday evening the President's team was successful in their match against Harris, Ltd., the scores being; Lyttelton 536 Harris, Ltd., 529. Highest scororß for Lyttelton wero J. Wyatt 69, and C. Thomas and H. McDonald 68 each The winners of the various Buttons for the weeK were: —President's, J. Wyatt with 67: Third Grade. P. Oakley with 62, and Ladies' Brooch. Miss M. Mills with C 6. Next Wed nesday the juniors will meet Working Men's Club, and the President's will meet Ward's Ladies, both matches being shot at Christchurch. Personal. The directors and staff of J. T. Norton's, Ltd.. gathered at a social evening in the Excelsior Hall recently to farewell a member of the staff Miss Ella Thurlow, on the occasion of her approaching marriage and removal to the North Island. The evening was spent in songs, games, and competitions. During the supper aSjournment Mr J. T. Norton, cnairman of directors of J. T. Norton's, Ltd.. presented Miss Thurlow with a cheque on behalf of the firm, and spoke of her many fine qualities, and of the high esteem in which she was held during her fourteen years' service on the staff. On behalf of the staff Mr W. D. Gower presented Miss Thurlow with a silver teapot and jug. Miss Thurlow suitably responded, and the evening concluded with the singing of "Anld Lang Syne.''
