REHABILITATION
PROMPT ACTION UKGEP. To discuss the findings. of -the. Rehabilitation Commission, and to emphasise the importance of urgent "action, a deputation from the Returned Soldiers' Association waited^on the Hon. W. Downie" Stewart yesterday morning. _ Mr T. L. Drummond, vice-president of the R.S.A., said that they desired to enlist the sympathy of all members of Parliament, as it-was 'the Association's earnest desire to have, the, re- | commendations of the carried into effect. . If *that were done it ! would be a great boon to thousands I of returned soldiers.. They desired Mr Stewart's sympathy ; and - support.... in urging- the Government to deal with the matter as early as possible. -- ! Mr W. £.. Leadleysaid that if the ! recommendations were put into'effect I they would do away with, many anomalies. There were 5000 disabled soldiers in the. Dominion, and. many o£ them were in " very straitened , circumstances.' The Government should "find money to carry out its obligations, as the pensions of-many of the men'were not sufficient. *• • Mr E. F. Willcox (secretary) said that as the result of the Poppy" Day appeal £I6OO had been allocated to local. bodies for work-for the 150 men who, a few weeks ago, were on the Association's books.. But they were only playing with the position, as the -men wanted permanent work. Mr Stewart, in reply, said that he would bo willing to do all he could in the interests of the returned soldiers. The report probably would be laid on the table of the House at the beginning of the session, and members would have full opportunity to discuss it on the Address-in-Rewly Debate or during tht» Financial Debate.
