YESTERDAY'S TRANSACTIONS.

There was a moderate turnover of stocks on «ali yesterday, with the bulk of the business in the banking and brewery sections. Prices of several stocks showed a further hardening. Bank 20 National Bank of New Zealand 50 New Zealand Lnsurance. 116 United Building Society. 50 Staples Brewery. 1100 Tooheye Brewery. LOO Tooths Brewery. 100 New Zealand Breweries.

Commercial Bank of Australia shares tvere firm with business at 21a 7d, and there were further sellers at that price, buyers at 2ie 6d. Commercial Bank ox-oyOiiey <Oiaraf» moved up to £zi iob, murKet closing £3l iOt. ouyers, ZOZ lOs seller*. English, Scottish, and Australian Bank snare* were stronger with dealings at £b 10s, closing quotations is on either side. National Bank ol New Zealand remained at £6 b's, and there were further buyers at that figure, eellers at £6 7s. Buyers ol Union Bank of Australia raised their bids to £ll 12s 6d, sellers at £ll 14s 6d. New Zealand Insurance shares advanced to 44s 9d, and there were further buyers at 44s 6d, no sellers. Buyers of Dalgety and Company shares raised their bids to £ll 6s, sellers at £ll 14s. An odd lot of United Building Society shares was released at 14a 3d. Kaiapoi Woollen fully paid ordinary shares. were firmer on buyers' bids! lis 4d, sellers at lis lid. Auckland Gas were in stronger demand at 24s 6d, sellers at 25s 6d. New Zealand Breweries were fractionally firmer at 52s 3d. closing quotations 51s lOd buyers. 52s 6c- sellers Staples Brewery shares recovered to 47s 9d. closing quotations 3d on either side. There was heavy trading in Tooheys Brewery shares at the advanced price of 245. market closing 23s lid sellers. 23s 8d buyers. Tooths Brewery shares were easier, with business at 84s Bd, further' sellers at 34s lOd. buyers at 34s 9d. Mt. Lyells were fractionally firmer with buyers at 29s 7<J. sellerß at 29s lOd. New Zealand Farmers' Fertiliser shares hardened'to 19s 9d buyers. 20s 5d sellers. Vir-toria Nyanza Sugar shares were stronger on buyers' offers 39s 3d, sellers at 40s 3d.
