NEW OPERA HOUSE.
The fact that it is now well into its fifth week and is still drawing crowded houses proves "The Gold Diggers of Broadway" at the New Opera House to be a very popular picture. Into the life the film reveals were precipitated at the shortest notice, and at first all unwillingly, a dignified, if somewhat portly, solicitor, hitherto sffeltered by a supposed "sweetie"-proof sophistication, and his client, the millionaire guardian of his nephew, an immaculate young man very much in lovo with one of the girls in the chorus, who is a charming little show girl—untouched by the temptations of its life. She was the protege of a girl who was understudying for stardom, and the problem was to convince the millionaire that his heir would not bo courting blue ruin by such a marriage as he contemplated. ......,■ Warner Brothers, who produced this film, have considerately estimated in percentages the importance of the various parts, and Winnie Lightner, who has that of Mabel, beads the list. She is the fun producer, the laughmaker of the film, and she succeeds a full 100 per cent. The expression on the face of this well-experienced gold-digger, her smart sayings, and her art when at work on a victim compel laughter.
