After Ten's proposed trip to Blenheim has been cancelled. He braised a foot a few days ago, and. although the trouble has been overcome, it was not thongh| advisable to race-him .under present track conditions! Barly in the present racing season it appeared as if ; Pomp, one of the last of the progeny of Absurd to appear on the turf, would prove to be in the leading division of two-year-olds in New Zealand. When he was in Sydney, during-his visit to Australia last spring he wns generally voted to r be a certainly beaten in the Breeders' Plate, at Bandwick, and general regret was expressed when the youngster met with •enous injuries during tho return voyage .to New Zealand. That led to a lengthy retirement from further ac-tivities,'and-nothing further was asked of him for the season. He has now been .brought in from his owner-breed-er's farm,.and Walter Bayner will pro- . eeed to get him ready for spring engagements. Through 'the agency of Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., the bay giding Tho Raider by Warplnoe—upano, has been purchased by Mr J. 8. Barton, from Mr J. M. Dune. The gelding is to go into R. TROTTING NOTES.

Nominations for the Canterbury Park T.C.'b Winter Meeting close at 12 noon to-day. Generally the acceptances received for the Oamaru Trotting Club's Meeting, to be held on Saturday, are quite satisfactory, and the fields are big enough to make the task of specula* tors at least interesting. The one exception ia the Waikaura Handicap for tmlioppled trotters, but this is not surprising, for there was an opinion amongst owners that the race was a 4.46, and not a 4.66, clbsb. The result was that many horses were nominated that should not hare been, and others who would have been in their right class were not entered. Titer* are eighteen horses left in the Advance Handicap, and all are on tho limit, 8.40. The prospect of giving away starts to fast improving young horses did not appeal to owners of the more seasoned performers, and now that Mr H. A. Jarden, the handicapSr. has finished his job, the -rest is :t to the starter, Mr J. H. Tomkins, and his task is not to be envied. The luck of the draw will count a good deal in this race, for there will probably bo three divisions, and those drawing the front line will nave the advantage. With nineteen horses engaged in the President's Handicap at Oamaru on Saturday, there is the prospect oi a good race, but as njno of these are on the limit it seems mat the winner will come from this division, in which an> several pacers who have not yet shown their best. 'Salient, Sonoma, Erin's Fortune, and Neeoro are all useful and farther back in the handicap are Nelson de Oro, Jolly Pet, Wrackeen, and Great Logan* all with favourable prospects. If time were to be taken as the onlv guide in the matter of selecting winners, the ehaaoe of Dewy Pointer in the Advanee Handicap at Oamaru would apnea! as second to none, for he is se* to do 8.40, while at the Ashburton Meeting on April 26th he went 8.26 ft* the mfle and a half. It should also be remembered that Glenville, who finished eecond, a neck behind Derry Pointer, in 8.36 1-5, is also on 8.40, and others engaged are quite capable of improving a good deal on what they are set to So* Then in the nrmcipal event, Sonoma, with a record of 4.82 2-5 against his name, is engaged on 4.36, but since making hit Fast time he has been beaten several times off 4.36. At one period, actual time > registered could oe taken as a guide, both in handicapping and in the selection of winner*, but nowadays it is a very unreliable basis to work on. More depends on the class of horses beaten than on the time made. Although Todd Jjonaia failed to accomplish the task of beating 2.20 for a mile at Forbury Paris on Thursday, his owner. Mr G. E. Hudson, is anxious to have these figures agatnet the name of his colt, and it is possible that an effort will be made one day next week to establish a new record. Addtngton is generally regarded as a faster track than JVwbnry Park, and with good weather and track conditions, Ttotrd lonsia will be given every opportunity. RAGING OF GELDINGS. NSW BUMS DECIDED UPON. (trsnas »aiw vnamxtw-** sisctmc «auHnu»—eovimtftM.) (Seeeivefi May Mth K S.lB pJB.) SYDNEY, May 14. The Australian tfeekey Club, and the Viotorian Baelng Club have jointly decided to debar geldings, from competing in the classic raees of 1932, and thereafter. ■ ■ The opinion is expressed that by allowing geldings to ran in the highlyendowed l wo-year'old and three-year-old races, the inducement is held out to owners to geld fine youngsters without a trial } and perhaps before they have had a reasonable chance to transmit their good qualities to progeny. Thus the primary objective of the elubs to improve the breed of horses is defeated; The new role will not apply-to the present yearlings. Gloaming, Ballymena, Prince Humphrey, Capidon, and Phsr Lap are among the geldings successful AJ.C. Derbies. WANGANUI J»C. All started in the BOslyn Haelt Handicap, and Palormo was made a much better favourite than the Attractive Lady-Miss. Badowa bracket. Attractive Lady, Bachelor Bey, and Battle Maid were in charge when the field settled down, and at the tar turn Battle Maid had run up on the outside et Bachelor Soy, this pair being oloar of Attractive Lady and the favourite, Impertinence being last. Battle Maid led into the straight from Banner Boy, Palermo, and Attractive Lady, and drew away to win by two and a halt lengths from Meitui, who finished fast from tho homo turn and beat Palermo by. two length* for second money. Banner Boy, Miss Redowa. and Impertinence were next. An Easy Win. Tho bracketed pair, Erin's Chimes and Erin'e Fortune, EUcgro, ' and Rollicking Bells were withdrawn from the Now Bivor Harness Trot, and Sunshade and Black Friar were icuch better backed than Spring Chimes, Erin'e Advance, King Ma,c, Lady Freeman, or Imperial Bingen. Lady Freeman at onoe went to the front and led King Mao over.the first eix furlongs. Then Imperial Biagon ran into second place and followed Lady Freeman into the final circuit. Passing tho eix furlongs post this pair were fifteen lengths dear of Hushabye, who was running at the head of a bunch. Three furlongs from home Spring Chimes and Sunfire ran into third and fourth places, hut were atill a long way behind the two leaders. Imperial Binges passed Lady Freeman at the top of the straight and ran home an easy winner by four lengths from Lady Freeman, who beat Spring Chimes by five lengths. Sunfire, Black Friar, aadj Slump were next. The Novices. Tea Urn and Pandalma were withdrawn from the Trial Handicap, and Night Parado was made a much better favourite than Bitractor, Night Lark, Milliner, and Wincette. Slim Jim threw his rider, T. Metcalf, prior to the start, but took his place in the field. Aranoah jumped out smartly from a good start, but after going a furlong Bridget ran to the front and led Aranoah, Memories, Night Lark, and Milliner. Bridget led across tho top and into the straight, where Mil- j liner got a good run on the rails. She ran ■ right, away from the rails, but stayed on to beat Night Lark by a length. The judgo placed Cough third, but she finished a long way back. Zelanian looked to finish third, with Night Parade, Baby Bliss, Bitractor, and Spanish Maid next. Won All the Way. Black Duke and Battle Flag were withdrawn from the Flying Handicap, for which Meadow Lark was made a much better favourite than Red Boa, Lucky Light and Apache bracketed. Lucky Light held up tho start for several minutes, and when the barrier rose got pitched out. Rin Tin Tin (on the rails) was quickly into his stride and was followed by Caterpillar, Red Boa, and Full Fhng. After racing round the far turn Caterpillar joined' Rin Tin Tin and the pair raced across the top on even terms two lengths in front of Red Boa and Full Flintj, who wero also racing together. Rin Tin Tin led Caterpillar, Full Fling, and Bed Boa into the straight. Then Caterpillar had had enough and dropped out. Rin Tin Tin held oft Full Fling in the run to tho post and beat her by a length and a quarter. Lucky Light, who travelled very fast from the home turn, was a length away third, and Red Boa, Caterpillar, and Apache next. The favourito finished last, and hia running was explained by B. Brodio, hla rider, having to receive medical attention to one of his eyes, having been struck by a stone in the early stages of the race. The Cup. All started in the Southland Cup Handicap, and the Biverton Cup winner. Red Sea, was made Uttle better than an evenmoney chance, Black Duke, Circulation, Wicgatui, and Camisader being the next best backed. Bed Racer led Camisader and Evening through the straight, and those threo carried on the running right to the approach to the home turn, where the favourite ran up on the outside of Red Kacer and Camieader Once in the straight Camißftdor easily shook off the favourito and •beat Red Racer homo by threo-quarters of

a length, with Evening a length away third. Black Duke and Circulation, who finiehed next, were each close up at the home turn, but failed in the run homo. The favourite was the last to finish. An enquiry was held into the crowding of Evening * n< * Camisader at the turn out of the straight by Red Racer, but the explanation of the rider of the latter was accepted. ■ A Poor Contest. The withdrawal of Overhaul from the steepleohase left only three starters, and Snowfall was eont out at an odds on price. Taramoa led for nearly six furlongs. Then Snowfall took up tlio running and was not afterwards headed. Three fences from home he struck hard and Taramoa's rider got up with him, but Snowfall pushed him right to the outside of the course going to the last fence, and easily beat him in the run home by three lengths. Balvasco fell at the fence near the five furlong post but was remounted , for third money One for Night Maid. All started in the Stewart Island Haok Handicap, and Fair Exchange was made a much better favourite than Top Speed, Barn Door, Night Maid, or Night Rot*. The favourite was troublesome at the barrier and placed on the outside of the field. From an even dispatch. Battle Screen led out from Barn Door, Sentinel Laid, and Top Speed. Going past the five furlongs post, Battle Screen, Bam Door, and Sentinel Lad were a couple of lengths in front of Night Maid, and there was no change racing across the top. Battle Screen and Barn Door led Night Maid into the straight, the favourite and Craigmore being at the tail of the field. ! Night Maid ran home a good winner by a length and a half from Barn Door, who beat Vinegrove by half a length. Lucky Maid,. Night Rose, and Sentinel Lad were next. Nedda Emails. The withdrawal of Glenrowan and Red Racer left a field of six to go to the post for the Tradetman'e Handicap, and Paris ; and Mount Boa carried the bulk of the money, with Battle Flag and Sparkling Eyes the next best fancied. From a moving in j start, 'Battle Flag led out from Nedda and i Cupid'e Dart, and after going a couple of furlonge, Battle Flag was leading Cupid's Dart, Nedda, and Paris. Cupid's Dart ran up to Battle Flag going to the far turn, with Nedda and Paris running together next. Across the top Mount Boa ran up, but got carried out wide at the home turn, where ' Nedda took charge. Paris put in a good challenge down the straight, but Nedda •tuck to her job well and beat him by half a length. Cupid'e Dart was a length away third, and Battle Flag and Mount Boa nest. j 1
