B. Hughes* stated, that he With, other bfficefs'-'of. the Association met '■■' members of the Board •-sdme months ago with a request that the tramline on Page's road be relaid in the centre of the road so as-to overcome the danger of the Breeze's road crossing. To their request, Mr Hughes said. Messrs Wood, Hay ward, and the M general manager (Mr Frank Thompson) ' adopted a very '' autocratic attitude. "Mr Wood was a veritable Mussolini," said Mr-Hughes, "and. said 'No 1' to all our requests." The Board claimed that the metals then down would last at least-another seyen» years, and the expense .; :> '~oi relaying, would be too.great. "- - : - "In face of this, how could the. Board explain why only seven months later the lines were taken up and relaid with metals previously used on ( Papanui road ? The -whole action of | the Board was'ail insult to the As- ' sociation, who" made a reasonable request to improve' a dangerous crossing.'.' Mr' Hughes 'moved and Mr J. Brooke-Taylor seconded that the Board be asked, to explain to the. Association their change of. front in this matter and why thev opposed'the Association's request in the "first place-. ■ The' motion was carried unanimously.
