CONTROL BY COUNCIL SUGGESTED. (BRITISH OIJTtCIAI. WIRELESS.) ItUGBY, May 1. The text is issued of a Government Bill for the creation of a Consumers'/ Council. The Council is to consist of seven members of whpm two at least must be women, but additional bers may be appointed ■by the Board of Trade for any particular enquiry. The Council will concern itself witn articles of food for. general consumption, wearing -apparel c,< 7""f materials/fuels, and art>P>e3 of common usn. which the -poard o Trade may.require it to enquire into. ... The Coupcil is empowered to examine anvono on, oath, call for a writ statement and examine books, counts, and other documents. Where the Council reports that an excessive price . is .being charged, 1 may set out what it consider a nropsr price and recommend the Hoara of Trade to make an order for the purpose of securing compliance, upon issue of such an order by the Board of Trade, contravenes will be xo penalties of £o in the case of a • offence, or not exceeding ?. r months', imprisonment or both for su frequent offences. A Board of Trade order may govern not only'the actual selling (wholesale 1 or retail price) but also the brokerage or commission' rate.
