ILLEGAL LOTTERY.

THAMES, May 2. The secretary of tht "Waiomo Park committee was charged with establishing a lottery, in which the prize was a £5 note, in order to purchase an area outside .the borough for a camping site. A queen carnival was conducted, permission being obtained from the Minister to raffle steel engravings: The committee proposed a prize of £5, but on a police protest, the sale of ' tickets was stopped, and the raffle abandoned. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs, 10s, the Bench remarking that-the defendant-had not sold any tickets.
