The monthly mooting of the Rangiora Borough Council waß held last evening. Present: The Mayor, Mr C. S. Aycrs, Councillors R. R. Gillanders, R. H. Bailey, 0. "W Tyler, J. Lindon, IX. K. Kippenberger, W. E. liorroll, F. K. Jlartjn, and W. Carbon Wilson.

The Sinking Fund Commissioners wrote forwarding a statement of yearly accounts, and stating that the net return was £6 Us per cent. i . The Finance Committoe made the follow; ing recommendations:— (1) That |he application of Mr F. Fennell for a revaluation for rating purposes be approvod. (2) That further fixed deposits on account of tho sewerage loan bo made by the Mayor or Or. Bailey. The recommendations were approved. Tho Joiut Committee recommended:— (1) That tho Mayor and Cr. BoOey be authorised to meet the chairman and clerk of the County Council regarding sewerage works. (2) That the police be asked to co-oper-ate With the traffic inspector in an attempt to abate tho nuisance of noisy motor-cycles. (3) That the subdivision of Taylor's estate. High and King streets, as per plan, be approved, and the seal of the Council affixed to same.

The recommendations were approved. The Works Committee made the following recommendations:— » (1) That a trial bo made with Coldfix emulsified bitumen during the coming months. (2) That application be made to the Highways Board to declare Percival street a secondary highway. (2) That the levels of King street North roadway bo taken with a view to scarifying and rolling and tarsealing. (4) That'the Electrical Engineer propare a report showing the state of poles and cables in Good street, with & view to the proposed alterations in the formation of the street.

The Town Clerk reported that the accounts for the year were ready, but wore held up for final adjustments with the Audit Department. The- accounts show an increased volume of business and general improvement.

In connexion with sanitation matters, Mr Howard, the contractor, had found it necessary to - give up his contract. The Town Clerk, in giving a verbal statement ou the matte*, snid, notwithstanding the position that Mr Howard now finds himself, ho wished to state that during the period he has bad the contract tho work has been carried out in an excellent; manner. A recommendation by the Town Clerk that a fresh contract be made for continuing the sanitation servico with the men employed by tho late contractor was approved.. The Town Clerk further, reported that the Rangiora County Council has withdrawn its objection to the proposal of the Borough Engineer to lay a sewer in a portion of the County road at East Belt and Nortlibrook road.

The Borough Engineer waited on the Council, and explained methods of erecting tho mghtsoil dump, and treatment works, for places which are not included in tho sewerage area. It was decided to obtain further information on the matter. Cr. Tyler reported that at a special meeting of representatives of local bodies in the district held at the Rangiora County Council Office in connexion with tho suggested appointment of a motor traffic inspector nothing definite was arrived at. It was stated that the cost 'would be about £6OO, and it was
