" TO THE EDITOB OF THE PRESS. Sir, out oar holiday just i tecently, my wjfe and I chose a trip south. Starting from Christchurch, we planned Ashhurton as our first stop, ®sd there., spent the week-end. We arrived on, the Saturday morning and went on a walk .round the town and • ■ its environs, which certainly gave us the impression of improvement. On the Sunday afternoon) -tfe visited the X)omain, which, while living in the district, we always had great admiration for; but our good impressions and memories oftho past were rudely shocked at the state of the flowers, grounds, and everything. There were dirty papers and refuse everywhere, i. and the genera] untidy appearance promoted us to write these lines, as We knew the lovely spot when all was '' kept so neat and clean and prim.- ,] Yours, etc., 4 I r TRAVELLER.
