ACCOMMODATION WANTED.

TELEGRAM TO MINISTER.

"You know it takes a long whilo to consider—especially a request for more accommodation," said Mr E. H. Andrews, at last evening's meeting of tho Technical College Board of Governors, when a telegram was read from tho Minister for Education (the Hon.' H, Atmore), dated April Bth, stating that on his return to Wellington tho next week-end he would give consideration to the Board's request for additional accommodation.

In reply to tho Buildings Committee 's urgent telegram,, the Minister telegraphed;—

"Your telegram to hand at Ngaruawnhia asking me to give urgent attention to tho question of additional accommodation. I am returning to Wellington at the end of the week, and shall be glad to give my consideration and write you." After the telegram had been read, the chairman (Mr McGregor Wright) said that no roply had been received. Should tho Board send another telegram? A member: Send him another onel

A letter was suggested, but finally the Board decided to send a second urgent telegram pointing out that 130 children wero without accommodation. A letter from the Minister was then read, in which he replied to a request that the Government should advance the cost of the farm, which the Board hoped to purchase for use in connexion with the school, on the understanding that in due course the Board will refund half the cost.

The reply, which was dated March 21st, and received on April 7th, stated: "I have to say that I am unable to agree to the proposal, since it would create a difficult precedent if the Gov ernment advanoed subsidies in anticipation of the raising of local contributions, especially when the personnel of Boards is changed from time to time. I must, therefore, reefer yon to the conditions laid down when I met your Board in Ohrlstchnrch on February 10th,"

Mr W. H. Winsor said that the Board should not let the question drop, and the letter was referred to tL« Agricultural Committee,
