LATE SIR GEORGE CLIFFORD.
TRIBUTES FROM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. The loss to the community in the death of Sir George Cttfford was re* ferred to at last night's meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, when the president (Mr Norton Francis) moved: "That this council regret's the great; loss to the -commercial and farming community through the death of Sir George Clifford, who was connected with this Chamber as a director of several companies which are members. His long and unselfish service in the interests of town and country residents in the Province of Canterbury in particular, and in New Zealand generally, will never be forgotten. This council desires'to express its sincere sympathy with Lady Clifford. Sir Charles Clifford, and other members of the family in their great loss, and its great appreciation of the invaluable Service rendered to the people of New Zealand by the late Sir George Clifford." Mr H. S. B. Turner said that as representative of an industry which owed a tremendous lot to the wise guidance of Sir George Clifford he would like to second the motion, and to ask the council to carry it in the usual manner. The council carried the motion by standing in silence.
