LAND TAX.
INVESTIGATION BY CHAMBER OP COMMERCE.
The Land Tax Committee of tho Chamber of Commerce reported to the council of the Chamber last evening that it had given consideration to various anomalies arising from the application of the land tax legislation of last session, and had endeavoured to lend assistance wherever possible to taxpayers prejudicially affected. It was considered that this matter opened up a very wide question in connexion with land and income tax generally, and that the Chamber could with advantage consider the advisability of thoroughly investigating the incidence of taxation with a view to making recommendations for the removal of certain anomalies and injustices which the present system involved. The report was adopted. The president, Mr Norton Francis, moved that the Land Tax Committee be authorised to investigate further the incidence of taxation, and this motion was carried unanimously.
