Belgrave, welcomed the delegates and expressed a hope that the deliberations would be to :the, advancement of the Order' in Canterbury. The quinquennial valuation report for/ the period ending December 31st, 192,7, disclosed a surplus over- the whole district of £21,941. -Mho. actuary congratulated the district on the very satisfactory results disclosed, and suggested that the Order increase its benefits to ''■ the members. ..-'.» 'Animal itopdrt'. --The report'and; balance-sheet of the New Zealand Foresters "Guarantee As-: sociation, which was, received, disclosed a -very satisfactory state of affairs, there being no claims made -during'the year. ~.....,' The annual report stated:— "Dnringrthe period under review we have gained a. net increase of 84 members as compared with only 29 members the .previous year. One • hundred and fiftyrseven new-members were received into.the order, and 73 members lapsed membership; • •!■.•■' "The funds of the district are as follows :—Court £ 63,641' 7s lldy. district £17,024 12s 6d, total £79,665 19s sd, a net increase over last year's figures of. £2726 18s 6d. , The amount of interest *arned : by the Courts is £3206 Is 64V and; by the. district.£993' lOsßd, making a grand total of £4199 12s. The total amount of sick pay paid out by the Courts during the year was £2641 12s 2d, and for doctor, chemist, and hospital fees £'3260 8s sd. ' ' '} ' Chief Ranger's Report. The report ot the District Chief ■ Ranger, Bro. John Belgrave, disclosed that the total membership for'the. district was 1860. It continued as follow*: "The increase of 84 is not as large as it should, be and I would ask-yota to work earnestly and steadfastly to gain members. Let us all try to act. on the suggestion .of one of the high court omcers; which is, for each member to make himself" or herself responsible'for.' the introduction iof one * member into - the j Order, before the centenary.' . ■ "During my term, as District ChiefRanger' I have 'visited all the Courts, of the- district—with .the exception of Court Victoria. On all occasions of my visits I was accompanied by my brother members of the executive; I have been , impressed—not so much with the enI thusiasm—as with the spirit of enquiry ' that has met me on almost all occasions of our visits, more especially in coun- ; try courts. It was pleasing to note the improvements in some, of the country courts; the business in some being carried out with promptness and dispatch, though in nearly all cases the ritual had .not been memorised. There! lis one court I must congratulate .on efficiency, namely, Court Papanui. Without. exception, it is :the best worked court in the district."' General Business. .A remit, from Court Victoria regarding fees for members was considered and passed. Votes of sympathy were passed to the relatives of Brothers who had died since the.last district meeting, the delegates standing in silence. Bro. Hefford, of Court Ashburton/ gave an interesting resume of his visit to the Sigh' Court - ! meeting* at Wey* mouth, England. ' Bros.
