TOTALISATOR TAX.
RSIPIY TO MB POWQN. WBtLWOTON, May X. The flportfs Protection fceague, In further discussing fte proposal to increase the totnlisetor tax, and M? W. J, P* son's statement At Gore that the racing industry would not hate to pay one penny more under his scheme, the increased rate being paused on to the public points out that the increased rate cannot be passed on to the public without nffwting what hj« calls the *aeing industry. Since the dividend tax was doubled the State revenue from the totalizator had last season inoMftwd by only a UttJe more than *B&OQQ, but the revenue received by the industry from the machine had fallen by more than £200,000. One more turn of the screw and both State and industry would bo losers, a pesttion that had already been reached in hie own electorate, where the club now oolleeted from the public fer the Government less revenue than it did before the tax was doubled. ■'■■ ',' '"V!. . ■
