INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM. INVITED TO NEW ZEALAND. An Indian Army hockey team will ' be' invited to tour Now Zealand in 1931 or 1932, according to a decision reached by the New Zealand Hockey Association at its annual meeting last *V6hing. The decision was the result of a motion from Mr W. H. Down, seconded by Mr H. Throp, which read, "That the Management Committee be requested to make an endeavour to obtain a visit from the Indian Army to tour New Zealand in 1931 or 1932, as this suggestion offers the test proposition for an overseas team to tour New Zealand, and that, failing an Indian Army team being available, an invitation be extended to a civilian team from India to tour New Zealand." Mr Down said that the Indian Army was the best body from which to obtain a team, both from the point of view of the game itself, and of the'cost and convenience of arranging such a tour. ' Mr .Throp added that an English team was difficult to arrange for, because of the.distance, and consequent cost,'and because of the English rales governing such tours by amateur teams, which required the players to pay the whole of thier expenses. Another point very strongly in its favour was the fact that the. Indians had a-very high standard of play, and a visit from them was sought by hookey organisations from all parts of the. world. ' It was pointed out by Mr Down that there was at present in Bombay a civilian team which desired to visit New Zealand, but it consisted of professionals, and demanded outrageously high terms. The meeting was unanimous in its support of thev-motion.

N.Z. ASSOCIATION. CHANGE OF TERRITORIES. At the meeting of the New Zealand Hockey Association last evening, where delegates from almost all the New Zealand Associations attended, Mr H. S. J, Goodman presided. ,Ia moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, Mr Goodman said that the outstanding event of. the year had been the visit of the Australian team. The invitation had come not from the executive solely, but from all the affiliated Associations. The tour' on the whole had been a great success; and' the' team had been one of the strongest ever sent over here from Australia. They had played 11 matches, won 6, lost 8, and drawn 2, The Association had coma out of the tour with a profit of over £BO, and this was the first time ft profit had been made from the visit of an Australian team. The income and expenditure account showed an excess of income over expenditure of £96 Is Id. ; It was decided that, .subject to his consent, his Excellency the Governor-General should be elected patron of the Association for the ensuing year. , ' ._, The remaining offices were ailed as follows :—President, Mr H. S. J. Goodman; vicepresidents, ■ the presidents of affiliated Associations} honorary treasurer, Mr P. N. Quar'.termain; Management Committee, Messrs R. ' Gracie, C. Bellamy, H. Throp, G. Struck, S. G. Holland, I. Gunn, and A. ff. Preston; hon. auditor, Mr A. Stewart. ' 'That the affiliation of the Bush Union shall be granted, and th»t the territory under 'lis control shall be the counties of Mauricevilla, Eketahtma, Pantatua, Akitio, and Wood- , yljle," .wast moved.'by Mr R. Bardie -Boys, from Wellington, who explained that the matter had first been brought up at" the last annual meeting, but had been deferred. Mr Gavanagh, a deputation from the proposed Bush Union, said that the present arrangement was . hot satisfactory, as the teams were compelled -to play in several territories, while the proposed Union would be the moat convenient arrangement and would remove- several anomalies. An amendment that the territories should be as set out in the motion, but with the exception of the borough of Woodyille, was lost, •. The original motion was carried with four dissentient votes, s ~ ■•"'At the request of the Horbwhenua SubAssociation Mr Hardie Boys moved: "That the county of Hdrowheuoa, now under the control of Manawatu, be transferred to Wellington," and pointed out that much would be gained by this more, and that there had been a number of friendly games played last year between Horowhenua and Wellington. Mr Downs stated that since referring to the Wellington Association Horowheauft hud applied for.;direc* affiliation to tbe< New Zealand Association,'and moved as.an ame-d----ment that this affiliation be granted. He added that if they could sot get affiliation they preferred to belong to Wellington. v The amendment lapsed,, and the original motion wiV carried. , " ' • With ' reference to Australian " tours, Mr Bardie Boys said that in his opinion these .-■weM^tooffeHuent, jwi.tlfcre'-wM'.noi ranch to, fte gained fromwthero. He moved that no New Zealand representative team should visit Australia-before-1082. Mr 6'. G Holland, opposing the motion, »aid ; th*t this was ft; very serious matter, and should not be discussed lightly,, The prospect of: Australian tours was a considerable incentive, especially in smaller centres; toward improved pl»y, 1 . j The motion was lost.
