WOOLLEN INDUSTRY.
OPERATIVES TO RESIST ' relduCtions. (UlflTBB PRESS ASSOCIATION —BY BLECTEIO TELEGRAPH —COPTBIOHT.) (Received March 27th, 6.55 p.m.) LONDON, March 26. Employers in the woollen industry have announced their intention to post notices of reductions in wages in accordance with Lord Macmillan's report. Mr Shaw, secretary for the operatives, that they will resist tjie reduction in accordance with the ballot, leading to a stoppage of Work. [Lord Macmillan, after an enquiry into the northern wool textile industry, recommended a reduction in wages, on the ground that the industry was so dangerously depressed that sacrifices in wages were essential. The union secretary, Mr Shaw, stated that male workers Would suffer a weekly reduction of 5s Id, females 3s, and pieceworkers 3s Bd. Two hundred thousand operatives were affected by the recommendation.]
