STATE FOREST SERVICE.
NEW CHIEF INSPECTOR. (f&KSS ASSOCIATION TBr.ir.auiu.) WELLINGTON, March 27. The appointment is announced of Mr C. McL. Smith, M.A., B.Sc. (Forestry) a.s Chief Inspector of Forestry for a period of five years from April Ist next. A New Zealander, Mr Smith was educated at Otago Boys' High School and graduated M.A of the New Zealand University. Ht served with the New Zealand Forces during tho war. and rose to the rank of captain After the war he studied forestry at Edinburgh University, and took his degree in that subject Subsequently he came to the Dominion and joined the State Forest Sf-rvice os forest ranger. tn 1925 he became Conservator of Forests nt Nelson, and three years later was transferred to the head office of the State Forest Service, where he has remained ever since.
