CIVIC THEATRE.

"THE LOCKED DOOR. M

LAST DAY. Mr Leslie V. Harvey, who" plays the grand concert organ in conjunction with the talking picture programme at the Civic Theatre, has as his principal selection this week the "William Tell" overture, but he also includes popular numbers in his programme. The all-talking dramatic romance, "The Locked Door," which:■is the main film, is a thrilling picture play, in which the, interest centres chiefly round a wife's endeavour to prevent the incrimination of her husband in a shooting tragedy. . Acting honours go to Barbara Stanwyck and to Bod La Rocque. Beautiful scenic' views in colour, or Italy, "The Mirror Dance," and "The Buzzard" are, accompanied on the organ by Mr Harvey. The first of a series of new sound-synchron-ised cartoons by the creator of "Mickey Mouse" is very amusing.

"HURRICANE."

OPENING TO-MORROW. ' Full-rigged vessels are rapidly becoming extinct. 'A ship that has been a favourite appeared for the last time in "Hurricane,V which., is-, coming to . the- Civic' to-morr row. 'lmmediately following its - use in the picture, .the Bohemia. was blown, to atoms and sentto Davy Jones's " day the Bohemia was one. of the most ven<turous vessels on the ocean; -. She - was ..built in 1875 at Bath, and - was used for: many years- in carrying cargo around the world. During that period she touched at nearly, every important, port on the globe, making twenty-eight trips - around' Cape Horn. The log shows some of the' most thrililng experiences. in., nautical history.. When finally put out of. commission as a regular, sea carrier the Bohemia was towed into Wilmington' Harbour, California, where, when attempting to pass under the high-tension wires in-the harbour,, her imasts made a contact, sending an electrical diechargo into the coal bunkent of the ship, ■' causing a fire costing £SOOO to repair. ' The vessel that played 'buch- an-.important role in the shipping industry in .former years was honoured as the boat used to make the first all-talk-ing epic of the sea, "Hurricane," in which Hobart Boswortb has the title role, while Ralph- Ince directed, both being old sea-dogs. In addition to the mn : n feature, Mr Leslie V. Harvey will play i*i the grand organ a selection from "Faust" and Kreisler's "Schon Rosmarin." Box plan arrangements are as usual. The official moving picture of the recent Sarron-Donovan fight at New Plymouth will be screened at tlfe Civic Theatre also. Advices from Auckland and Wellington, where the film has been shown, state that It settles many points about which there were different opinions.
