Two men, who are believed to have been using a motor-car which bad been stolen from , a city street, committed a daring theft in Victoria, avenue, Remuera, early on Wednesday evening. One of them snatched a handbag from the hand of a lady who was walking down the avenue 'a short distance from her home, while the other drove from her home, while the other drove slowly lip the road and pioked him up. Although the owner of the . bag. Miss J. E. McDonald, screamed and immedi ately went for assistanoe, the men in the ciar were easily able to escape. Miss McDonald left her home about 7.40 p.m. to attend a bridge party, when a motor-car overtook her. She did not pay much -attention to the car beyond noticing that the near door was open, and there were two men in the vehicle who seemed to be trying to read the street numbers on the gates. At the foot of the avenue one of the men got out and the car turned round a motor-bus which waa standing there, and commenced to go up the avenue again. The, man walked up the avenue also, and when he was close to Miss 'McDonald suddenly staggered in front of her as though lie was drunk. She stepped aside, and at the same time he suddenly snatched .a light evening bag she was carrying. She clung to the thin chain by which she was holding it, but this broke, and the man rushed away after, the car, which was slowly travelling up the street. He jumped in and the vehicle immediately sped away. Miss McDonald screamed; but there was no one in the street, the person nearest her being the driver of the bus, who was looking to the front of the vehicle and did not see the incident. She then ran into a house, and communicated with th« police. The handbag contained about 85s in silver. <
