Owing to the rush of trade in some of the docks under the Port of London Authority there has been a shortage of labour. At some berths, where an average of 120 men were taken on a little while ago, more than 500 hands have been at work. For 50 years head gardener at Egham Park, Egham, Mr James Pickett, who has died, aged 79, served under 11 different families.
