On Saturday night the fortnight'* match between McConachy and Newman at the Bolborn Billiard Hail earn* to an end with the New Zealander 933 points to the good. As McConachy was over 3000 points in front early in the game, the recovery made by Newman was a good one. ' When the final day's play was begun McConachy wai leading by 1000, to there was very little doubt about the result. Having the better of tome vary good play in the afternoon, MoConachy increased his lead to 1235, scoring U36 for an average of 118, while Newman made 009 for an averago of Si, MoOonaehy did not start very well, but after a little safety play he made a good break of 171, which included 48 cannon*, and, althongb Newman played for safety again, MeOonacby added a run of 79 before he milted a thin loier. At hjg fifth visit Newman made up for these run* en the'part of his opponent by showing capital form in a break of 860, making run* ot «7 and 68 close cannons. McConachy, however, maintained his big advantage easily by making breaks of 255 and 455, in each of which he soored at the top of the table with great skill. Before the session was concluded Newman added a break of 348, which included 68 cannon*, but hi* highest run* afterward* were 44 and 81, while hi* opponent'* nest were 51 and 4S. ... The scores at the Interval were: McConachy (in play), 22,982: Newman, 31,747. Although Newman had the better of the play in the evening, he did not stand any real chance of success. Newman scored HO® for an average of 138, while McConachy made 804 for an average of 89. Newman made most of his points at two visits to the table, when he made breaks of 453 and 417. Newman played very well right np to the end, but, although he had the satisfaction of reducing his opponent's lead considerably, McConachy always had the result Quits safe. In his two big breaks Newman played very steadily, making some clever runs of cannons, of which the highest was 55, and his form, particularly in view of. the fact that his opponent had led praotically all through the game, was very good indeed.
