HOSPITAL BOARD.

YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The North Canterbury Hospital Board met yesterday. Present: Mr H. J. Otley (chairman), Miss E. J. M. Cardale, Mrs T. Green, Dr. H. T. D. Acland, Dr. P. Stanley Foster, Messrs William Anderson, G. Armstrong, J. Boyd, H. R. Davison, L. B. Evans, H. H. Holland, F. Horrell, D. McMillan, F. G. Norton, F. Rowell, A. T. Smith, W. P. Spencer, and W. J. Walter. The following motion, proposed by Mrs Green and seconded by Miss Cardale, was carried unanimously:— "That the increase for medical certificates imposed by the resolution of the Board on February 26th shall not apply to individuals under the Workers' Compensation for Accident. Act." Mr ' Holland was appointed the Board's representative to attend the public enquiry on behalf of the Town Planning Board. The Director-General of Health (Dr. T. H. A. Valintine) forwarded a report on the proposed site for the new maternity hospital at Lyttelton, which was unfavourable. The chairman said that they all knew the trouble they had been put to in Ending a suitable site at Lyttelton; they were so hard to get. Hie had replied to the Department stating that tne Board had been for tlfree years trying to obtain a site. The chairman's action was endorsed. The Hospital Committee's report stated that the average daily number of patients in the Hospital during the month of February had been 358. In the venereal diseases' department there had been 1333 attendances, representing 281 patients, 42 of whom were new. The Lady Superintendent reported the resignations of Staff Nurses N. Carter, Jean Barnett, and Clare Wilson, also Nnrse Holmes, who was to be married. The report recommended that Staff Nurses Buchanan and Percy be appointed sisters: one from April Ist, the other from May Ist. The matron of the Infectious Diseases Hospital stated that at the end of, February there were 38 patients in, the institution, and that during the month the total number treated was 81, Comprising: Scarlet fever '67, diphtheria 23, and tonsilitis 1, a total of 81. According to the Superintendent of Cashmere Sanatorium there had been 96 patients in residence in the Middle Sanatorium, 81 in the Upper, 36 in Coronation Hospital, and 32 in the Fresh-Air Home. During the month there had been 154 attendances at the dispensary, of which twenty-four were new cases. , Accounts amounting to £10,300 9s Id were passed for payment.,
